This time we will see how to activate a license in a PIX Unrestricted emulated in GNS3 . I hope you find it useful .
To begin you must have previously installed the software GNS3 , if not already done so please visit http://www.gns3.net and download the latest version.
Upon completing the previous step, run GNS3 (right click option " Run as Administrator ").
Once started GNS3 proceed to configure the appropriate parameters tions in the PCM , so that we click on the Edit menu -> Preferences. We will see a screen like this:
Make sure the path to the program pemuwrapper.exe is correct, by default it is in English (Program Files) , so it is necessary to change to correct if your Windows is in English as in this example.
Then in the field PIX IMAGE we must choose the path to the image file of the computer's operating system are going to emulate PIX . In my case I copied a version of 7.22 from a PIX525 PIXOS my office.
The field values Key and Serial must correspond to the values of the PIX team license . In my case I copied the license values PIX525 UNRESTRICTED of my business by using the command show version.
Important: we insert commas between the hexadecimal values of the key to the understanding and tions in the PCM must be converted to hexadecimal value of the serial number that shows the PIX when you run the command show versionBecause originally it is in decimal.
Note that licenses are Cisco PIX granting business licenses for the exclusive use of the customer , do not use a license in an emulated PIX if you have no right to use it in a real PIX.
owever, the values of Key and Serial Number Interface tions in the PCM settings are applied only to boot the PIX up to version 6.x PIXOS , from version 7.0 onwards the license must be activated manually from privileged mode.
For the value of Flash Base we create an empty file in the folder "My Documents " which we will call pixflash.dat. The name can be anything you choose, but it is important that we make this step because we will later use to save the activation parameters of the license.

•And finally we close the Terminal window and turned off the firewall FW01 with button Stop
•Proceed to record our project with a name either from the menu File- > SaveIn my case , I called " pixbase.net . " This file will be the basis for starting new projects that include firewalls, we will not have to be repeated each time the activation steps of the license.
•At this point we should just turn on the PIX with the button Play Open a new console terminal, enter privileged mode and run the command show version to verify that your license is UNRESTRICTED . However, due to bugs in the GNS3 is likely that some of you will be hanged on PIX or that you restart they reappear RESTRICTED version , as if they had not done the steps above. For this reason and for healthy safe side we will close completely GNS3 and then re-run and open the project to maintain.
•Now when we review the version should say that it is UNRESTRICTED .
